Message to followers of Hayfield Kinder Trespass Group
April 15th 2021.
- 89th Anniversary, 24th April 2021. There is no organised walk by HKTG, and no Spirit of Kinder event this year. But there is to be a Zoom talk and meeting on Saturday 24th at 7.30 pm. See full details below from our Chair, Dave Toft.
- We are already beginning to plan a major celebration for the 90th anniversary in 2022, here in Hayfield. Further details to follow as things are firmed up throughout this year.
- There is an important new article on the website about how the first public celebration came about, the 50th anniversary in 1982. This is written by Julian Batsleer, who was one of the main organisers, alongside Benny Rothman himself. It is of course in the section Anniversaries and Celebrations. Kindertrespass.org.uk
April 24th is the 89th anniversary of the1932 Kinder Scout Mass Trespass.
This was only one of many actions taken by people in the long (and continuing) campaign to gain access to our land, but it has become one of the iconic events that have come to represent that struggle. The talk will look briefly at the first phase of the modern struggle (Winter Hill 1896, Hayfield Snake Path 1897), on the events of the Trespass itself – and then on the political context and implications for the current political situation. The talk will last approx 30 -40 minutes and there will be a short time then for questions. The whole meeting should last for about one hour (allowing plenty of time to enjoy the rest of the Saturday evening!
