Kinder walk for students

March 8th 2019.

Around 70 first year undergraduate Geography students from Leicester University, together with tutors, arrived in Hayfield for a walk and talk event hosted by Hayfield Kinder Trespass Group.

The day began with a talk in the Royal Hotel by HKTG chairman David Toft, who outlined the history and importance of the 1932 Mass Trespass, and pointed out that the leaders and organisers were about the same age as the assembled students.

Participants then chose which of several walk routes to go on, and each of the groups was accompanied by a member of HKTG who was able to answer questions about the trespass, and point out landmarks and Trespass Trail information installations, as well as helping with route finding.

The tutors said they hoped to bring a similar group again next year, and HKTG plan to offer this kind of hosting service and guidance to other groups in the near future.
