Be part of the campaign to secure our Outdoors for All

Sign The Hayfield Kinder Pledge (Designed by Peter Senior, one of the artists who worked on the 1989 Rivington Pledge) Supported by Alpkit.

Outdoor campaigners including members of some of the groups that are now part of the OUTDOORS FOR ALL COALITION (see below) have been meeting in Hayfield and, inspired by the famous Rivington Pledge of 1989, have written a similar pledge based on the issues and challenges facing us now and in the years to come.

By purchasing your own copy of the Kinder Pledge below, your name will be included as a supporter of the pledge. All proceeds go to support the campaigning and educational activities of Hayfield Kinder Trespass Group, including its organisation of annual Trespass events in Hayfield to mark the 1932 Mass Trespass and raise awareness of current issues:

If you really want to ‘do your bit’ for greater access for everyone to our open spaces, please help us in our campaigning by supporting the pledge.

The Pledge is now available online and there will also be a formal launch in Hayfield on Saturday 27th April 2024, in an afternoon of stalls, performances, exhibitions, speeches and live music to mark the 92nd anniversary of the Kinder Mass Trespass, with the theme of:

OUTDOORS FOR ALL

For everyone who cares about access to our open spaces, rural and urban, the current year will prove to be of historical significance. In the 92 years since the Kinder Scout Mass Trespass in Hayfield, gains have been made in responsible access to appropriate open spaces, but these are more fragile and far less extensive than we might think –  amounting to only 8% of land and 4% of rivers. Even recognised footpaths are regularly obstructed by landowners, meaning a continuous struggle is needed to keep what we have and gain access to what we ought to have.

In recognition of this, 42 outdoor groups have for the first time joined together to campaign for greater access for everyone in a coalition named ‘Outdoors for All’. This coalition includes the National Trust, the Ramblers’ Association, British Canoeing, the BMC, Right to Roam, the Camping and Caravaning Club, outdoor swimming organisations, and many, many more. It launched its ‘manifesto’ on March 6th 2024 at a cross-party event in Westminster.
