The largest attendance over the weekend since 1982. Speakers included Kate Ashbrook, General Secretary of the Open Spaces Society and lifelong campaigner; Caroline Lucas, then the only Green Party member of parliament; Dr Morag Rose, academic and campaigner; broadcaster and writer Stuart Maconie; Maxwell Ayamba, academic and campaigner for greater participation in the outdoors for ethnic groups; Yvonne Witter from MOSAIC, similarly campaigning for broader diversity in access to the hills; Craig Best, General Manager for the National Trust in the Peak District; David Toft, Chair of Hayfield Kinder Trespass Group.

The theme of the weekend was how the ‘outdoor movement’ could encourage a greater diversity of participation and ended with a call to all organised outdoor organisations to come together to form a powerful and effective national platform for campaigning.

On Sunday, campaigners for greater access to open water organised a highly successful wild swim ‘trespass’ in Kinder Reservoir. Police estimated that there were two thousand visitors over the two days. National media reported extensively on the event and the issues of restricted access raised by it.

This event also marked the support and involvement of The Tent People, which has continued as a partnership since, enabling the event to thrive and expand.
