Mass Trespass Anniversaries: Reflecting, Resisting & Moving Forward

Every April, the Hayfield Kinder Trespass Group brings together outdoor enthusiasts, historians, and campaigners to mark the anniversary of the 1932 Mass Kinder Trespass. For us, these anniversaries are much more than just a look back at history. They are a vital space where we reflect on past victories, analyse the current state of our landscape rights, and gather the momentum needed to fight for the future of outdoor access.

Through our annual festivals, rallies, guided walks, and talks, we ensure the radical spirit of 1932 stays firmly alive in the public consciousness.

Explore our anniversary archive below to see how our campaigns, guest speakers, and community festivals have grown over the years:

93rd Anniversary (April 2025)

Our most successful weekend festival since 2022! Sponsored by the Wainwright and Alpkit Foundations, the 93rd anniversary saw the Hayfield Kinder Trespass Group team up with national and local Right to Roam campaigners, the Outdoor Swimming Society, and the YCL. The weekend featured a lively rally on the village hall green, a march along the “trespass trail” to William Clough and Kinder Reservoir, and an inspiring mass dip.

92nd Anniversary (April 2024)

A historic milestone event that marked the official launch of The Kinder Pledge—a powerful collaborative charter between HKTG, the Ramblers, Right to Roam, the British Mountaineering Council, Spirit of Kinder, and outdoor swimmers. The weekend was packed with live music, entertainment, educational talks, and a pop-up radical bookstall by Dark Peak Books.

90th Anniversary (April 2022)

A massive national milestone focusing on “The Politics of the Mass Trespass on Kinder Scout.” This landmark anniversary featured a special symposium hosted by the Working Class Movement Library in Salford, connecting the “Red” politics of the 1930s walkers to the “Green” climate and access politics of today. It featured prominent guest speakers, local business partnerships, and mass commemorative walks.

Past Milestones Archive (85th, 80th & Older)

Take a journey further back into our event archives. Discover how we marked previous key milestones—including the 75th anniversary (famously described as celebrating “the most successful act of direct action in British history”) and the 80th anniversary, which laid the groundwork for our ongoing push toward establishing a permanent physical exhibition and visitor centre in Hayfield.
